To encourage the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs), the Telangana government has announced a 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees for all EVs in the state. This new policy, set to take effect from Monday, is expected to accelerate the transition to electric mobility, aligning with the state’s sustainability and energy efficiency goals.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, speaking to the media on Sunday, highlighted that the policy would provide a significant boost to the adoption of EVs in Telangana. Along with waiving registration fees, the government plans to enhance infrastructure, including the expansion of charging stations, and offer incentives to manufacturers.

Electric buses purchased and registered in Telangana until December 31, 2026, will also be exempt from road tax and registration fees for their entire lifespan, provided they are operated by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation. Additionally, buses owned by industries for employee transport, excluding commercial use, will also benefit from these exemptions.
